Welcome to the School of Land Information Management Systems (LIMS) website. LIMS, TAFESA , was estalished in 1974 and offers a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) options in spatial information services (SIS).

Spatial Information Services, hereafter SIS, is an umbrella term used to define the range of services offered by the spatial industry, including global positioning systems (GPS), surveying, cartography, computing, ICT, geographical information systems (GIS), remote sensing, business services, web technologies and more! LIMS goes Moodle!

Moodle is a Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is a Free web application that educators can use to create effective online learning sites.

As many TAFESA Lecturers are now using Moodle, LIMS decided to migrate from Joomla! (a Content Management System) to enable more effective and streamlined course delivery. The new portal is called LIMS MyCourse and accessible via the top menu on this site or directly here: http://mycourse.lims.com.au

NEW PCs! MapInfo Professional v10!

Over the mid-semester break the 22 + 16 computers in the main two LIMS computer suites were upgraded. The PCs all have 4GB DDR Ram and Intel Centrino processors. All monitors are now 19 in and the dual monitor setup in Lab 1 are now both 19 in.

New Equipment Acquisition: GMS-2

LIMS have just purchased a TOPCON Mobile GNSS Reciever, the GMS-2. Students were given the oppotunity to try out the new unit on a recent field expedition to Calperum Station, providing GIS and survey functionality.

The GMS-2 features 50 channel dual constellation satellite tracking, an integrated electronic compass, replaceable/rechargeable battery, and an expandable memory card slot . With both TopSURV and ArcPad software, this unit will prove valuable for both GIS and survey tasks, especially with the internal digital camera which allows users to snap digital photographs of GIS features. These photographs are automatically linked to the GIS feature, certainly a valuable time saver!

The unit also incorporates internal Bluetooth® Wireless Technology Connectivity, removeable and rechargeable all-day battery, expandable memory options, dual-constellation satellite tracking and much more.
